Marine Power International Pty Ltd has become aware that some models of the Verado L6 engines have the potential to lose shift control. The outboards listed above require replacement of the shift bell crank components.

Mercury Marine has received reports of loss of shift control due to bell crank stud breakage on the models listed above. It has been determined that the breakage is caused by the corrosion that can occur as a result of prolonged exposure to saltwater. In order to protect against corrosion, a welding operation has been added to both sides of the bell crank stud, and EDP paint has been applied.

The boat should not be operated until the repair has been completed.

People with an affected engine (as per the above table) should contact their nearest Mercury or Mariner Dealer who will arrange for the engine to be inspected and rectified at the expense of Marine Power International Pty Ltd.
